Robert M. Probst (born 1969 in Munich) is a singer, pianist, and composer with roots in jazz, classical music, and theater. He began performing as a singer, keyboardist, and songwriter at the age of 11. Alongside his musical career, he also worked as an actor on stage and in film, appearing in productions such as Mamma Mia – Nur keine Panik alongside Thomas Gottschalk, Uschi Glas, and Ottfried Fischer.
At 19, he became a member of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Dusko Goykovich. This was followed by performances with renowned artists such as Bobby Shew, Bobby Burgess, Adrian Mears, and Lee Konitz, as well as a feature as a rising jazz talent in the BR documentary Body and Soul.
He studied jazz piano with Leonid Chizhik and classical piano with Gernot Sieber at the Richard Strauss Conservatory. He received composition training from Cornelius Hirsch. Early in his career, he worked at the Munich Kammerspiele, collaborating with directors such as Peter Zadek and Jens Herzog.
A one-year stay in Granada led to solo concerts featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, and Berg. Upon returning to Munich, he became musical director at the Kammerspiele and co-founded the Kapuli Kaupunki Broken Heart Orchestra. His discography includes releases such as Yol – Way of Heart and Reminiscence (Robert Probst Quartet).
Today, his focus is on jazz vocals: with the Robert Maykel Trio and as a singer for television productions such as Checker Chan and Schloss Einstein.
